“Learn from Experience, Explore the World.” An Interview with Dr. Aizenman

“In the age of globalization, there are plenty of opportunities out there. Go out and experience the world. Experience is the best form of education.” –Dr. Joshua Aizenman

Entering the business world after graduate school can be daunting. How can MBA students best prepare themselves before venturing out into the real world to start their careers? To answer this question, we interviewed Dr. Joshua Aizenman, an expert in global & local financial consulting and one of our research professor guest speakers from the University of Southern California.

After graduating, Dr. Aizenman thought that his educational journey had been completed, but it wasn’t until after taking some time to travel the world that he realized how much he still had left to learn. His educational journey had only just begun.

“Understand and practice is important.”

When asked, what experience should an MBA student obtain to find a better future, Dr. Aizenman said “Getting an MBA is a step in the right direction. By providing insights into a shifting and ever changing world, an MBA can help young professionals in gaining understanding in important concepts such as international business. A good MBA program must provide experience.” Dr. Aizenman believes that the more experience students can get, the better. “We used to think technology would bring everything to us, educate us, but experience is the best form of education. Go out and experience the world.” Books and the internet are no substitute for real life experience.

Dr. Aizenman also serves as the Robert R. and Katheryn A. Dockson Chair in Economics and International Relations in USC and the co-editor of the Journal of International Money and Finance.
